​From the Balangays of our forefathers, the Bruneian empire’s control of “Kingdom of Manila”  in 1500, Magellan’s 1521 expedition ensuing to a 300 years of colonization and so on. Manila was able to bank on its rich history and share to the world at present. 

Name's Sake

Ermita gained its name from the word Hermitage or La Hermita in Spanish. Hermitage housing was prominent during During the 16th and early 17th century.
Malate coined from the word “maalat or salty”. Up to the 19th century locals gets its water source from well adapting to its geographical bay area setting, where fresh water and salt water converge. Thus, providing a bit of a salty water supply to its residence.

Ermita Malate Business Owners Association (EMBOA) – Established to gather business owners in the area who are passionate about uplifting the Ermita-Malate district. Providing locals job opportunities and revitalizing culture and history for tourist.  
 
EMBOA through its president, Michelle Pe, Miramar Hotel owner, invited media, VIPs and guests during the recently concluded Ermita Malate Business Owners Association (EMBOA) “Gift Giving, Christmas Carol, Handog ng EMBOA sa 500 Kabataang Kapus Palad!.” Approximately 500 children between 7-12 years old were able to receive gifts. A fun-filled endeavor dedicated to the less fortunate children. The success of the program was a combined effort of the 16 barangays, individuals and organizations of the said district. A well-attended program of a thousand more or less held at Remedios Circle, Malate last December 17, 2015
 
The event was graced with the presence of Manila Mayor, Hon. Joseph Ejercito Estrada. He reiterated on his speech, “Pagnaiisip ng mga turista ang Pilipinas karugtong nito ay ang Maynila, when the world talks about the Philippines, Manila goes with it.” Aligned with the mission and vision of EMBOA, they intend to invigorate the glorious days of Ermita Malate. The proximate go-to hub stone’s throw from Rizal Park, Fort Santiago and the Sunrise & Sunset of our captivating Manila Bay. Parallel to its shout out to the world, it also intends to secure all its locals and visitors that it is one of the safest tourist destinations of the country.
