With all the shenanigans of a quick rich approach done by some companies and their consultants, SUN LIFE financial in collaboration with Pesos and Sense founder and CEO , Aya Laraya shares with us part 3 of our Financial Literacy course, the what to and what nots in finding the right Financial Advisor. People are too tired of living in a world that’s full of hardships leading others to do the unthinkable, Scam Others (SO). “SO what if I scam them, they’re rich anyways”; “SO what if we’re on equal class, I need the money”. Whatever their “SO be it” mantra, it is always damaging on the part of the victims. Sad part with the equation is most of the “SO-MO’s (Modus Operandi)” perpetuator get away with these crimes. In the pursuit of “Helping Others To” (HOT) immediately determine scammers from legitimate Financial Advisor for YOUR Specific Investment. Aya stated that, in our country, the term Financial Planner is a catch-all term. Back in the days, anyone who wants to call themselves financial planner may do so, in the same way dealers of real estate call themselves broker. Nowadays, people have a clear demarcation in determining financial advisors with these classified certification:
If you plan to invest, better go through these steps to ensure you’re making the right choice. 1. Clearly state your expectations Be clear with your agent as to what your goals are and how much you are able to invest on a regular basis. This will enable your agent to assess and recommend the right investment for you. 2. Vet your agent Vetting leads you to assurance that your representative has a valid license and that the company he is representing is viable. 3. Ask questions You have every reason to ask questions, so don’t embarrassed to do so. Inquire about the agent’s personal experiences on investments; who are his preferred clients; how is he being compensated; and what are his limitations. Once you have covered the abovementioned, there are some more points you need to look into such as the investments being offered and how much your initial investment. This part varies from person to person and must be dealt with in person, thus, your agent must be located in the same region as you are for a manageable transaction.
